The 3rd testing presentation

So, we came up with the final version for the Navigating TLU App logo. Hope you like it!

Testing the app 2

Testing the app for the 1st time >>>

2nd testing presentation

4. Valeria
Imagine that you're a student of Tallinn's University. One day you had a lecture going in the farrest corner of the university. You could hardly find that classrom but you did it. After the lecture you have to rush to the meeting, but you still want to go to the Cafeteria. Locate yourself and find the shortest way to the Cafeteria using the app 'Navigating TLU'.

Valeria's experience
I was confused with the "Go" button and "Navigating TLU" icon, didn't know which one I should tap. This happened again after processing the QR-code. I was also missing the "Back" or "Home" button that would take me to the Home screen if I wanted to start over. It was not clear in the map how I would have been located on the screen.
Valeria's suggestions: I would combine the languages and description windows and also add a logo button that would be a "Home" button on a fixed bar at the top of the application. I would also suggest that the testing program would show my location on the map (it is needed that I woudn't be asking).

5. Elgars
Just try out the app and say what you think about it.

Elgars' experience
In basic I understand everything, but there is one more thing. This applicaton is for small auditory so in business line it's needless, but how I understand it's just for practise so for me the app was clear.

The 2nd testing presentation

1st testing presentation

1. Evelina
Imagine, you're an Erasmus student. You have visited Tallinn's university for several times, but you still find it hard sometimes to get to places you need. Today for the first time you have accidentally noticed a sign which says that you can use a mobile app here, called Navigating TLU, if you download it and turn on free Wi-fi connection in the university. You downloaded the application and started using it. Your task is to find out where you are exactly and go to Mare building's 512 classroom using the app.
P.S. Please read all notes in the presentation as it is only a medium-fidelity prototype with only the main functions.

Evelina's experience
In some slides I had several button and that was confusing cause I didn't know what to press. Also I wanted to ask if the "you are here and your destination" screen should have appeared like it did?
DEDUCTION: She claimed that buttons were confusing.

2. Virginijus
P.S. Please read all notes in the presentation as it is only a medium-fidelity prototype with only the main functions.

Virginijus' experience
It would be way more interesting to try the app on the actual phone as not I don't know how to use it here, maybe the presentation is poor, that's why. The app itself, I think, is a good thing for the new students, however, I don't think it would be popular as it requires an Inthernet connection. It needs some money and a smartphone. Besides, it is much better to ask for the local students or staff if you can't find the way to your destination.

DEDUCTION: Virgijinus didn't like the presentation (or the method of trying to test with it). Inthernet connection is not a problem as it is free and wireless in Tallinn's university, nevertheless, smartphones can be a problem.

3. Maria
Just try out the app.

Maria's experience
Slide no 5: Home button is confusing.
Slide no 8: What do I have to do next?
Slide no 10: I don't recognize the side bar.
DEDUCTION: We need to change the "Home" button and make some clues of the sequence of actions. Also we need to improve the side bar design.

Jan: persona, scenario, user story

Persona

Jan - Primary Persona (Active Student)

Jan, 25 TLU freshman studying the Master's Degree in Communication Management.

Description:
After concluding his bachelor's in Marketing and PR at the Estonian Business School, he took a year-long internship at an organization and decided to go back to school to enhance his knowledge. He is interested in the impact of social media on people's consuming habits, intercultural communication and interaction, PR and communicative phenomena. Jan is a frequent Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Redditt user.

Goals:
-Accessibility "I am not familiar with TLU and can't always be asking around for information; I need to find my classroom in time for the lessons."

-Clarity "I might have a problem during the first days moving through the buildings and corridors. I could use a map with clear signage or color codes that help me remember where I have to go."

-Useful and durable "When I get acquainted with my building, I would still like to know where offices and other classrooms are, just in case."

Scenario

First day chaos

It's almost 8am and Jan is heading towards his classroom, but is trapped in the corridors along with many other freshmen students. He is running late to his first lesson.

He takes out his cellphone and launches the Navigating TLU App. It asks him what language he wants to use. He choses Estonian and proceeds to point out his current position and where he wants to go. It indicates him several alternatives outlined in different colors. Jan takes the nearest flight of stairs and goes up two floors, takes a left turn and keeps going until he reaches his classroom just in time before the professor begins the lesson.

User story

Jan dislikes wasting time, and wants to find his way around the University's facilities as soon as possible so that he can make it on time to his classes.

Pedro: persona, scenario, user story

Persona

Pedro - Secondary persona (international student)

Pedro, 23

Bachelor in linguistics, looking for a suitable master's program. Works a part-time job as bartender in a club to earn some extra money for his living expenses.

Pedro is a bright young man from United States. He has always been interested in European languages, especially the Baltic languages, as he has deep-root relatives from Estonia. Pedro has decided to participate in a student's exchange program and come to Tallinn's university (he has never been to Tallinn before so he feels a bit lost).

In the first days at the University Pedro had a problem to find the right rooms for his lectures, even though he tried to use the signs in the University.

GOAL

A simple, portable, quick digital map that he could always use around the University. "I would love to find my way easily to cafeteria, auditoriums, etc. without no need asking and disturbing others."

An app in several languages (Estonian, English, Russian).

Scenario

Finding the right way

It was a long night for Pedro. He barely slept because of the time change, but he had to get up early as his first lectures had to begin at 9 am. He felt very tired and exhausted and didn't want to talk to anyone, the most important thing was to find the right way to the University simply and quickly.  He felt really nervous about the situation.

Finding the main entrance of the university was okay, but seeing all those signs and room numbers made him feel confused. Although there were a lot of other students around, he was afraid to ask somebody as he could only talk English. Pedro needs something to guide him through the buildings everywhere he wants to go in an easy way, without disturbing the staff and students too much.

Looking for the information in the board he found a sign telling that there are touch screens as well as QR-codes all around the university. He also noticed the link where he could download a mobile app which is called Navigating TU. Suddenly he felt a relief. He took his smartphone out of his pocket, typed the link into his browser,  downloaded the app easily (Tallinn university also has a Wi-fi connection all over the place) and started using it. First, he was asked to choose a language in which he wanted to use the app and he chose English. After that the usage was simple. Pedro proceeded to point out his current position taking the signs and words that he saw around him as tag words. It was now clear where he was, but even if he didn't use the words he could use QR-codes to indicate his current location in the university.  Then he typed the class number where he needed to go and the app quickly gave directions. It indicates him several alternatives outlined in different colors. He followed the direction of the app and therefore find the room easily, in time and without disturbing too many people.

User story

As an international student Pedro wants to move easily through the University buildings so that his first days in the University would be not so frustrating.

Anna: persona

Persona

Anna - Negative persona (Staff member)

Anna, 45

Anna has been working as a secretary in Tallinn's University for 10 years. Working here so long, she got familiar with the University quite well, so if anybody asks for help she's able to guide the students and guests.

Even though Anna knows the University well, she often thinks about how it would be much easier to offer students some additional help to find their way around the university. She already made suggestions how to improve the navigation around the University, but it was not good enough.

GOALS

Create a mobile interactive map to help students find their way around the university. Anna thinks it would be a good idea to establish an Internet map that every student could use with their mobiles or laptops.

Create an app that would be easy to update. Anna believes that creating a mobile app would be the easiest way make the maps up-to-date.
